Alternative Programs

Students interested in an alternative education program have two options here in Cherokee County.

TCEC offers high school students a different kind of learning experience.  With a focus on problem-based learning, students are empowered to take charge of their education and pursue their interests.  Each semester, students focus on a subject of interest within a chosen theme, investigate areas of concern, and construct their own solutions.

Students at TCEC can also complete studies that allow them to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree from Tri-County Community College.

Students who prefer smaller class sizes, more personal attention or who have issues with behavior or attendance can find additional support at The Oaks Academy, the district's alternative school.  Also located at the Oaks is one of the district's outdoor education sites.  The site includes a trail that winds through native rivercane stands and wooded areas, past streams and natural springs, leading to a small amphitheater and picnic tables.
