Title IX
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Inquiries about the application of Title IX and implementing its federal regulations may be referred to the CCS Title IX coordinator and/or the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education.

Cherokee County Schools Non-Discrimination Policy
The school system does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs or activities and is required by Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 and federal regulations not to discriminate in such a manner. This requirement extends to admission and employment. The board will not tolerate discrimination on the basis of sex, including any form of sexual harassment, as the term is defined under Title IX, in any program or activity of the school system.
Every employee of Cherokee County Schools has a duty, by law, to report allegations of sexual harassment & misconduct.
Formal complaints about sexual harassment and misconduct should be made to the Title IX Coordinator using the
Title IX Formal Complaint form.
